Global celebrity is definitely a global phenomenon because it will changes as the time goes by and being replaced with another booming celebrity that been spotted by medias. "Celebrity has helped organise the associated culture industries and in that way becomes a supporting and connected economy." (Marshall 2010) Different with other popular celebrity in Hollywood like Brad Pitt and Megan Fox for example, I personally think Jackie Chan worked really really really hard to be able to go through into Western and Hollywood market place. Was not an easy things for Jackie Chan to win different market production in many different filming production.

For Jackie Chan to went international into Hollywood production after won people's heart in Asia with his action was like a next step ahead. After success and received so many awards in China, Hongkong and Asia filming production, Jackie Chan went through and built a new career in Hollywood filming production which needs to adaptation in culture and nationality.

If we could see in the past, when the first time Jackie Chan played in his first Hollywood movie that people we realised that he was a new asian actor in the Hollywood because people just can tell from his accent or his english skill that was just new for him. However because of the culture improvement and we compared with the last Jackie Chan's Hollywood movie with his first movie, we could see how well he adapted with Hollywood new culture.
Somehow automatically Jackie Chan just set up the standard, a high standard for non-Western celebrity that planning to go international and go through Hollywood filming production.

You have utilised this weeks reading by David Marshall really well not just by using examples of a celebrity but the celebrity as a global phenomenon, good use of quotes also. By employing the case study of Jackie Chan and his rise to fame in Hollywood was a good way of expanding on the subject. My only criticism would be I would have liked to see more of your own personal feelings about the topic and what you understand of it but other than that nice blog.

ReplyDeleteI think that this was a really great celebrity to use for this particular topic, as Jackie Chan is very looked over when it comes to global celebrities. Your inclusion of Marshall's viewpoint gave your topic more depth and allowed you to expand nicely into your argument.
The images used fit well not only together but with this post as a while, as it shows Jackie Chan before he was considered a global celebrity to when he was considered a veteran in Hollywood.
A few hyperlinks may have been a good inclusion, as well as a read over for grammatical errors that have been made.
Apart from that, this was a good blog post. Nice job.
I really enjoyed this post! You managed to provide a timeline of Jackie Chan’s rise (or fall) as a global celebrity within the word limit. I think you made some good points on how globalisation affected Jackie Chan’s acting career. I feel you need to concentrate on the formatting and grammar of your blog as it was a little untidy in this particular post. A consistent font type might make it easier to follow the piece. Great use of images, they complimented your writing well. Great Job!

ReplyDeleteim glad that you bring up jackie chan in your blog. Jackie chan is a good actor and play many good movies. He can adapted fast in his new environment and new culture. He is a playful person that is why he can so easy to get along with his new crew and other actors. He makes asian proud with his step because he is one of the first actor who is succeed to bring asian culture to hollywood movie. It is true that jackie chan has put standart to his movies that we can see to the movies that he played. All the movies are not a cheap movie with cheap director. Good job andres.
