Week 2: Globalisation and Media Flows

This week I'll be talking about globalisation focusing on media flows in different era. I will be writing this blog based on my experience here in Melbourne and compared with when I was in Indonesia back then so, because there might be lots of differences between different countries of media flows.

Rantanen (2005) mentioned that globalisation is "a process in which worldwide economic, political, cultural and social relations have become increasingly mediated across time and space." In other simple words I guess globalisation is like the era cultural progress that universal that might be happened to anyone.

So after having a quick talk with my mom about globalisation and media flows, I just realized how this world has done so much improvement. In my mom's era which is 60s it was really hard to even get connected with media out there especially in Indonesia. There was no time for us to do those kinda things, that what she said because she was busy with our family. Even it was really hard for her to contact her own family like she needs to write letter and stuff so there could be no contact with her family till like six months. (because she needs to travel to another part of Indonesia to get a better job)

And while we were comparing many things she was like, she had no choice want it or not people nowadays need to go with the media and follow the global cultural development or else we wont know anything, in other words we will left behind. Like using internet, iPhone, FaceTime, Facebook, and other things are like kinda new for my parents because they just learned and master it this past months. Yes it is interesting for me as 90s to see how globalisation and media flows drag people out there to follow the cultural improvement want it or not, and without them realizing it.

Hey hey you you! Hello, my name is Andres Hiranata and you can just call me Andres. I am 19, from Indonesia who's been moving to Australia to do my study. I'm studying in Deakin University, Melbourne doing Bachelor of Arts majoring media communication and public relations.
